The Eighth Collection in the Mintel Archive contains recordings of concerts by Chicago’s Music of the Baroque under the direction of Thomas Wikman. This Collection highlights excerpts from the Brass and Choir concerts presented annually around Christmas. The Chicago debut of polish contralto, Ewa Podleś is also featured as well as Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. The Vespers of the Blessed Virgin (1610) by Claudio Monteverdi contains two different versions of the Magnificat. One is scored for a smaller group of musicians than the other and this Collection contains the more intimate version in Volume 7 as well as Jephthah by Giocomo Carisimi.
